Corp. Todd Nicely Benefit

Updated On: Jul 24, 2010 (17:59:00)

Mehlville Firefighters Local 1889 will be hosting a benefit for Corporal Todd Nicely and his family.

Todd is married to the granddaughter of retired Mehlville Firefighter Russ Bono. Todd was wounded in the war in Afghanistan and suffered life changing injuries. He is only the second soldier to survive after losing both arms and both legs during battle. There is no greater cause.
The Benefit will be held September 24th and 25th at Faith Lutheran Church.
It will be based around a two day Bar-B-Que.
We anticipate this to be one of the biggest events our Local has put on. There is no greater cause and we hope to have a variety of events there that day. Faith Lutheran Church was generous enough to allow us to use their parking lot to host this event. They are located at the interception of Telegraph and Erb Roads in South County As of now (and its early) we plan to have 2 days of   Bar-B-Que, drinks, a live band, fire trucks, a car show, possibly some equipment from the military and much more.
We just wanted to let you know a few things. First, please save the date and plan on attending. Second, we need workers.  An event this size will not happen without the help of our community. If you have time and would like to help work the event and help Todd, give us a call. If you are with a church group, school group, club or just you and your family, come on down. Similar to the 911 fundraiser, there are numerous things you can do to pitch in that day. We would love to see you behind the serving table as well as in front of it. If you would like to help, call 314-805-FIRE (3473). Leave a message and we will call you back
That’s it for now; we have a long way to go in a short time. We will keep you up to date and keep checking the website of our face book page for updates.

Public Safety: Everyone’s Responsibility

In the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, public safety has taken on new dimensions. Even in the face of growing threats and challenges, police and fire professionals continue to respond with characteristic heroism and selflessness. Unfortunately, some lose their life in the line of duty.

It’s impossible to fill the void they leave in society and in their families, but by supporting The BackStoppers, you can express your appreciation in a tangible way for a life given on behalf of others. By doing so, you can help those they loved the most continue their legacy of dedication to public safety.

A Safety Net with No Strings Attached

Started in 1959, The BackStoppers provides needed support and financial assistance to the spouses and children of all local and county police officers, firefighters, publicly-funded paramedics and EMTs and volunteer fire protection units, who have lost their lives performing their duty. Deaths from natural causes, illnesses or injuries are outside the organization’s scope.

The BackStoppers provides assistance to counties served by Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C in Missouri and Illinois State Police District 11 in Illinois
